Registration Packets for the Second Annual Henderson Senior Games are Now Available at the Anthem Center!

Anthem residents interested in participating in one or more events of the second annual Henderson Senior Games can now obtain registration packets at the Anthem Center. These packets are located on a table outside of the Exercise Room and on the kiosk outside of the St. Rose Wellness Center. They are also available at any Henderson Recreational facility. If any Anthem resident has any difficulty in obtaining a registration packet, they should contact Rich Giroux

The Henderson Senior Games, sponsored by the City of Henderson, promote senior sports competition, fitness and camaraderie. Last year over three hundred individuals participated in a multitude of events. The team of volunteers for these games has been working very hard to provide even more events and to improve upon last year’s success. The 2005 Henderson Senior Games will include Badminton, Basketball Skills, Bowling, Bocce Ball, Disc Golf, Fitness, 5K Race, Golf, Horseshoes, Paddle Tennis, Poker, Power Lifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball and a Walkathon (non-medal event). These games will be held between March 4th and 13th. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded for the top athletes in each event.

Registrations can only be made by mail or walk-in. Mail-in registrations should be addressed to the Downtown Recreation Center, PO Box 95050, Henderson, NV 89009-5050. Walk-in registrations can be made at the Downtown Recreation Center which is located at 105 W. Basic Road, Suite 101, Henderson, NV 89015. No phone or FAX registrations will be accepted. All registrations must be received no later than February 14, 2005.

Age divisions for all singles events will be determined by the participant’s age as of December 31, 2005. Age divisions for team sports, with the exception of Bocce Ball, will be determined by the age of the youngest team player as of December 31, 2005. The following age divisions will apply for both men and women for all singles and doubles events: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, 100+.

Sun City Anthem Lifelong Learning Center presents!

On Tuesday, December 21, at 10:00 a.m. at Anthem Center the Lifelong Learning Center will present Lynn Lanier discussing "Projecting the Future in the Light of Recent Scientific Discoveries." Lynn is a Sun City Anthem resident, retired chemist, and author of three science-fiction novels.

All SCA residents are welcome to attend. Learning Center members pay no fees; guests pay $1.00

The Minuteman Foundation is the organization which provides the funding needed to support the activities of the Community Service Club. The Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) charity.


Residents wishing to avail themselves of the Community Service Clubs services should call 614-5862

Services include:

  • Transportation: We will drive you to the local market or your medical provider
  • Equipment: We can loan you (on a temporary basis) a wheelchair, walker, or other durable medical equipment
  • Home Maintenance: We can assist you in minor home maintenance chores such as:
    • Cleaning or replacing overhead air filters
    • Replacing smoke alarm batteries
    • Changing overhead light bulbs
  • Home Assistance: Resource Directory of information on fee-based, discount, and many other services available to seniors. Volunteers will also shop & deliver groceries or medication to residents who are temporarily homebound.
  • Support Groups: The CSC sponsors several support groups to assist the residents of Sun City Anthem. These groups are:
    • Living “Well” with Disabilities (physical mobility)
    • Alzheimer’s Caregivers
    • Bereavement (non denominational)
    • One on one guidance through Jewish bereavement protocol
    • Friends of Bill W. (for recovering alcoholics)
    • Home Caregivers (for those caring for a loved one at home)

The Minuteman Foundation has received a donation in memory of Favil West's father who passed away this week in Yuma, Arizona.

What you will always remember is the way he laughed, the stories he told, the guidance he gave...
