Sun City Anthem Sewing & Quilting club

The Sewing & Quilting Club has made a $1,000 donation to the Minuteman Foundation. The members of the club voted to donate to this worthwhile foundation at their January 26 general meeting. The club decided that they wanted the Minuteman Foundation to be their first donation for the year 2005. Many club members have availed themselves of the services of the Community Services Club which is funded through the Minuteman Foundation. One member had broken her foot and was in need of a wheelchair and many members stated that they knew someone who used the Community Services Club for home maintenance and ride services. In a round about way the money used for the Sewing & Quilting Club came from purchases made through their sewing room by local residents. Anthem residents support our efforts by purchasing from us and now we can give back to those residents in the form of a donation. This donation directly supports Anthem residents and we are proud to do this.

The Sewing & Quilting Club consists of 127 members to date. These members meet on a weekly basis to construct items that they sell to help finance the donations they make throughout the year. A list of donations is posted in the sewing room for all to see. We are quite proud of what we have been able to do. We support local nursing homes, Veterans Hospital in Boulder City, Hinman School, Linus Blanket Program, Special Olympics, Troops in Iraq, and Child Haven to name a few. The Club also offers classes almost weekly. We have instructors who teach members how to make quilts, placemat & napkin sets, water bottle holders, purses, blankets, clothing items, doll clothes, nursery sets for babies, quillows (quilt inside of a pillow), stuffed animals, potholders, wine bags, tissue holders (both for your home and purse), neck coolers, and other items.

The members seem to enjoy themselves immensely and are all patiently waiting for the construction of the new Center to be completed as the Club will then move into the room being vacated by the Arts & Crafts Club. This move will give the Sewing & Quilting Club their greatly needed additional space. It is our hope that when the move is completed we can accommodate more members thereby increasing our productivity which will enable us to continue to support many worthwhile causes with Minuteman Foundation being one of them. Please continue to support the sewing room and we will continue to support you!

Unfortunate circumstances have brought about the cancellation of this gala event. In it's place the Board of Trustees has initiated the Bingo party described above.

Sun City Anthem Computer Club general meeting
February 3, 2005 at 1:30 p.m.
Delaware Room

Our guest speaker will be Gene Barlow, who with his wife, Linda, runs the User Group Store. Together they visit about 100 user groups each year. Gene is an educator, writer and a talented presenter, representing many vendors over the years with products that he finds valuable and effective for home and small business users. Gene will demonstrate three of the most exciting products in his line at this general meeting – SecureClean, MoveMe, and TrueImage. These three programs deal with successfully cleaning a hard drive, easily transferring both applications and data from one computer to another, and doing effective backups of your computer files. Join us for an interesting presentation on a topic of importance to your computer and its valuable data.

Gene and his wife Linda have been frequent speakers at our meetings.

All Sun City residents are invited to attend.

Sun City Anthem Computer Club Vice President and Program Director

Sun City Anthem's Channel 99 tours the new building!

I want to extend congratulations to Larry Attebery and his team for the splendid video tour of the new recreation center they compiled when shown through the property by Keith Pickard.

The segment, now being shown on Channel 99, is a must-see for our residents, and especially for all of us on the Communications Committee. Do make a point of catching the telecast if you have not seen it.

This is a great demonstration of the potential for Channel 99 as we move forward.

Again, congratulations to Larry and colleagues!!
