Resident Directors Present Nevada State Assemblywoman Sharron
Angle
April 18, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
Assemblywoman Sharron Angle,
R-Reno, will present her Nevada-styled Prop 13 initiative. Her
presentation will be followed by a question and answer period. |
Sun City Anthem Resident Jack Silas
spoke to the community on April 11, during the Final Transition
Committee report.
The following paragraphs are his
closing comments. (Ed. note: The words in
red are his emphasis):
We live in a magnificent community with wonderful benefits and
many opportunities for members to contribute. Our small city will
eventually consist of about 14,000 neighbors. The annual surveys
continue to show that over 95% of our residents are happy with our
community.
It is not and will never be perfect! From the work recently
completed by the various task forces, it is clear that ours is a
very well-run and financially stable retirement community. There
will always be room for improvement.
If you have an interest in helping SCACA grow in a positive way,
volunteer your time to achieve these objectives. It is very easy
to sit on the outside and criticize others for what they do,
but it takes work to address issues in a
positive way and even more work to negotiate acceptable solutions.
The more talented people participating on committees, the better
our community will be for many years to come!
Ladies and gentlemen, last month I attended both of the “Candidate
Forums” for the upcoming Board of Directors election. I was very
disturbed by comments made by a number of the
uninformed candidates. When I
listened to some of the candidate’s comments, I thought I was in
another world! A few candidates spent a considerable portion of
their very valuable allotted time dwelling on the “Trumpets”
issues.
We are a $6,000,000 well-run business, and some of the candidates
seem to believe that issues concerning an item which represents
less than 1/10th of 1% of our annual budget should be your reason
for electing them. Those of you that have been in business know
that if you spent the bulk of your energy focusing on items that
small, your company would not have been successful.
By the way, the Trumpets issues are
currently being addressed by the Board of Directors and me and are
very close to being resolved in a very positive way that will be
beneficial to both parties!
Two of our current Board are volunteers with the same frailties
that human beings have! They are charged with looking out for the
interests of the community as a whole and not to represent
“splinter groups who want to further their own personal agendas”.
It is not an easy job, and we should commend them, not attack
them! The Board is the primary reason the
Association is in such a strong position!
We as homeowners should not be represented
by individuals whose approach is to
capitalize on our emotions and jump to erroneous conclusions
without the facts!
Those who have expended the effort to become
involved by at least regularly attending standing committee
meetings have reached the conclusion that the Association
is very well-run, but like all volunteer-directed associations,
not perfect!
I personally believe our only shortcoming, if you want to call it
that, is that the Association does not communicate as effectively
as it should. That is the primary reason the Board of Directors
has chosen to add another standing committee when it recently
established the new Communications Committee under the leadership
of Jack Herlihy.
Please, over the next few weeks, exercise the most cherished right
we have as U.S. citizens, the right to vote.
In casting your ballot, please consider the fact that, in the
coming year, we will have a $7-10 million dollar budget and need
to be run by a Board of Directors staffed
by experienced volunteers who have exhibited a strong interest in
our community by regularly attending standing committee meetings.
AGAIN, PLEASE REMEMBER
WE ARE A WELL-RUN, FINANCIALLY STRONG COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
BECAUSE OF OUR ACTIVE VOLUNTEERS AND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
Thank you for listening.
