Providing service to my community through communication.

Good Day!

This morning, I received the following email from Senator Reid's office:

"The President of the United States has signed the Transportation Appropriations bill into law. The Heliport language was included and is now law. Have a nice day."

Two times in the short history of Sun City Anthem we have stood together as a community to ensure our expectations are met and our lifestyle continued.

  1. The first time, we, as a community, were successful in reaching an agreement with Del Webb on the Anthem Master plan changes. These agreements resulted in, among other things, the construction of Independence Center and building 3 which will be completed in 2007.

  2. Two years ago, the Clark County Department Of Aviation planned the construction of a heliport at the Go Kart track near the Sloan Connector. This would have substantially altered the safety, noise and comfort levels of our community. You responded once again to the call and we were successful in convincing the City of Henderson, Clark County, and our Congressional Delegation to support a site South of Sloan (SOS) as preferred site for the location of the Heliport. That site has now been selected.

I thank all 1205 of you that attended the first meeting, showing the City Fathers, the County Commissioners, as well as our State Legislators our concerns. In addition, I thank the 400 who attended the County Board of Commissioners meeting giving visible support to the South of Sloan (SOS) site. I also thank the 1001 of you who attended the second meeting where we shared our concerns with Senator Reid and his staff. I especially thank Dick Sovde and David Bernstein, who worked with me as we lobbied the County Commissioners in our successful efforts to get support for the SOS site.

Thanks also to Chris Haines and Del Webb/Pulte, John Ritter and the Focus Group who provided monetary support for our lobbying efforts. Thanks also to Arnie and Anne Mallinger, Larry Attebery, Bob Berman, David Berman, Dick Cancellier, Kristi Longsinger, Mike Carey, and Ralph Saccoliti who helped facilitate the meetings as well as act as the core group for SHOUT, our nom de guerre for this activity. Special thanks to Jerry Merz, as always, my go to guy, and last but not least, the Hiking Club who walked every square foot of the proposed SOS looking for any kind of fauna or flora that might cause environmental concerns.

Well done!

Favil West

Just a Reminder to be Safe Coming & Going
During the upcoming Holidays

Safety Tips:

  1. The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!
  2. If a robber asks you for a wallet or your purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you... chances are that he is more interested in your wallet or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.
  3. If you are ever thrown into a trunk, kick the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will.
  4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc... and just sit. The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CARD, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
  5. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head, DO NOT DRIVE OFF, repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your air bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat, they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes, bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.
  6. Getting into your car: Be aware - look around. If you are parked next to a van. Get in the passenger side and move over. Look at the car parked on the drivers side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone on the side by you, you may want to go back into the mall, or work and get a guard to walk you back out.
  7. Always take the elevator instead of the stairs.
  8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP! It may get you raped or killed. Don't stop and help someone when you are alone. Call someone to come and help them.
  9. Beware the crying baby. If you hear a crying baby at your doorstep, DON'T OPEN THE DOOR. Call the Police. This is a scam used by serial killers to get you to open the door.

BE SAFE, BE SMART and ENJOY THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
