A Christmas Eve "Miracle" performed by the Community Service Club.

At 5:30 on Christmas Eve, I received a phone call from a resident that had just returned from the airport with his mother who had come for a visit. He realized that it was outside the normal hours for the Club's activities and called me. He explained that he had just returned from McCarren International Airport. At the airport, an accident caused injuries to his mother that would require a wheelchair.

I relayed his request to a member of the Club's Equipment Committee. Within 1/2 hour of receiving the call, a wheelchair had been delivered!

Not really a miracle, but close.

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas.

This is your Message Board.

It's kind of like a 'slow motion' chat room where conversations may play out over several days or weeks. Post a comment, question or problem here and others can read it and reply to it whenever they want. Just like Live Chat, all residents can participate but there is no anonymity — every message is tagged with the resident's name.

Homes for Sale or Rent/Lease

  • You may post up to four photographs or documents pertaining to your home and list pertinent information for your prospective buyer.
  • Instead of four photographs, try three photographs and an image (PDF) of your model's floor plan to upload.

Reasons to visit the Community Web site!

Last week I asked folks that have visited the new site over 150 times just why they landed in this category. Some excerpts follow:

Respondent #1.

  • I generally go there each day and check "What's New." Then, if its Monday, and if I remember (I live in Sun City, you know!), I view the Channel 99 video. I have DirecTV, so I'm glad its available on the website.
  • I use the address book for addresses, Village Names, and phone numbers quite often. You'd be surprised how many people don't know what village they live in.
  • I also like looking at the floor plans, believe it or not. I love seeing how different houses are laid out.
  • I like reading the minutes from various meetings, and other documents.

Respondent #2.

Main Features that draw:

  • Channel 99, Calendar (although it is in need of some help re the way some club meetings show up and the conflict in actual dates/times of meetings), ability to e-mail board and club officers, eForms, and Spirit Magazine.
  • I have rarely sent an email to someone of authority that hasn't replied.
  • I was a store owner of a PostNet franchise in CO and we had a Franchisee web sight. As with Anthem, although it contained a wealth of information and had a Message Board, it was only used by a small percentage of the franchisees.
  • As a member of the computer club, I have noticed that the highest number of class attendees seem to be with the XP classes. Maybe as part of the XP intro class, a quick overview of what is available on the Anthem site could be reviewed. As indicated by attendance at the Board meetings, there is not a lot of general interest about what goes on here (my opinion only) and thus use of the Anthem site.

Respondent #3.

I use the SCA web site to:
1. look up resident directory info
2. check on various club events for the week
3. review responses to my postings on the message board

Rules don't apply to me?

Thankfully most of us obey rules. Federal, State, local laws and  ordinances.

In response to the November 28 issue containing the Henderson Police story of Douglas Raymond Hoffman being charged with one felony count of injury to other property, I received a disturbing e-mail message. I have quoted much of that message:

"He must have paid a giant premium (as did we) for his 'view' lot that Del Webb denies is a 'view' lot while charging exorbitant amounts for these 'premium' lots as Del Webb calls them. The ONLY reason for the 'premium' is that these lots have VIEWS while others do not."

I suppose that sort of sentiment fosters the "rules don't apply to me" mentality. When signing documents at the time of purchase, these people must mentally repeat over and over again in their minds "'premium' means 'view' to me — 'premium' means 'view' to me — 'premium' means 'view' to me...." Or maybe, "they are selling 'premium,' but I'm buying a 'view.'

Hundreds of trees have been cut throughout the community. Now a block wall has been defaced with graffiti messages trying to place the blame Pulte Homes. These "rules don't apply to me" folks can't conceive of the notion, that they are the ones at fault for ignoring the axiom that trees do grow!

See Ron Johnson's site for an image of this latest outrageous deed.
