Sun City Anthem Current Events & History Club
Special Presentation
June 15, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
Anthem Center
“A Sense of Duty” is a nationally-honored book
by Mr. Quang Pham, a naturalized US Citizen from Vietnam who is
running for Congress, as an Independent, in Southern California.
The book (and this presentation) is a true story about two
military pilots, a father and his son, and their unique life
journeys—Quang Pham and his father, Hoa Pham.
The father, Lt Col Hoa Pham, VNAF, a USAF-trained pilot flew
A-1E/H, AC-47, C-123k and C-130A for South Vietnam in the 1950's
to 1975 time frame. After 1975, Hoa Pham survived 10 years of
torture in Communist prison camps before being allowed to
immigrate to join his family and become a US citizen—just before
dying of cancer.
The son, Quang X. Pham, escaped with his mother and sisters to the
US in 1975, and overcame staggering obstacles to become
US-educated, to graduate from UCLA, and to become the first
Vietnam-born USMC pilot. Quang went on to fight for the US with
great distinction in the Persian Gulf and Somalia. Afterwards, he
joined the USMC Reserves and became a successful entrepreneur.
This book is Quang’s way of saying thank you to his father’s
generation, and to the US military who have made it possible for
so many in the world to enjoy liberty. This special presentation
will fill you with new pride and lasting respect for those who
fought for freedom for South Vietnam. Don’t miss it!
