Help Save the Sanity of Many!
At least once a week, I receive a message
addressed to dozens of folks that warn us about some dire event if
you don't take heed.
These messages almost always contain a phrase emphasizing that the
message is "real" or "legitimate" and that you should send it to
everyone in your address list. Both are clues that it probably
isn't "real."
However, what is real is the fact that it is probably not true and
that many e-mail address are suddenly out there for all recipients
to see.
Some examples:
Claim: Sprint long distance service lists
calls placed to Israel as having a destination of 'Palestine' on
customers' bills in order to "court Arab business."
Status: False.
Claim: Hotel room keycards are routinely encoded with personal
information which can be easily harvested by thieves.
Status: False.

Nevada Senior Olympic Games
The
statewide 2006 Nevada Senior Olympic Games will be held in the Las
Vegas area from September 23rd through October 15th.
This is your opportunity to compete in the sport(s) of your choice
against individuals of similar age. The sports being offered are
Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Basketball Skills, Bocce, Bowling,
Cycling, Dance, Fitness, Golf 18 & 36 holes, Gold Skills,
Handball, Paddle Tennis, Pickleball, Pistol Shoot, Pool (9 Ball
Tournament), Powerlifting, Racewalk, Racquetball, Roadrace, Roller
Skating, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Track & Field
Events, Triathlon, Volleyball, and Walk-A-Thon. Gold, silver and
bronze medals are awarded to the best performers in each sport.
To
be eligible you must be at least 50 years old as of December 31,
2006. Registration packets are available outside of the St. Rose
Wellness center located within the Anthem Center. You may print
your copy of the Registration packet.

about each event offered as part of the Nevada Senior Olympic
Games. Registrations must be received by mid-September. If you

Emergency Preparedness
CERT Training
Do you want to be able to handle a declared
emergency?
The Las Vegas Fire and Rescue will be conducting its CERT training
course. The training will help you to handle a declared emergency
in just 6 easy lessons. The six classes will cover every type of
emergency that could occur in southern Nevada.
You will learn:
- search and rescue techniques
- medical operations
- fire suppression
- disaster psychology
- weapons of mass destruction
- and pull it all together in team
organization.
You will NOT be expected to do anything beyond
your personal physical limitations.
You will learn and you will have fun.
Upon completion of the six classes you will receive a manual
referencing all that was covered in each session and more, a
certificate of completion, and a CERT backpack filled with
essentials.
The frosting on the cake is that the course is offered
FREE OF CHARGE and is offered HERE at ANTHEM CENTER.
Our next class is scheduled on six consecutive Wednesdays from
6:00 - 9:30 PM
September 6 and 13 in the Bristol Room
September 20 and 27 in the Concord Room
October 4 and 11 in the Bristol Room

The
Minuteman Foundation is the
organization which provides the funding needed to support the
activities of the Community Service Club. The Foundation is a 501
(c) (3) charity.
The goal of the The
Minuteman Foundation is to
fund the many and diverse needs of the elderly in each and all of
our growing communities.
Pursuant thereto we have allied with the Community Service Club to
provide free assistance to SCA residents.
The services included are:
Transportation: To local
area medical providers or supermarkets. Three (3) business days
notice required to arrange for your ride.
Equipment: We will loan you (on a temporary basis) a
wheelchair, walker, crutches, cane, or other durable medical
equipment.
Home Maintenance: Assistance with minor home maintenance
chores such as: cleaning or replacing overhead air filters,
replacing batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO)
detectors, or changing overhead light bulbs.
Home Assistance: Resource Directory of information on
fee-based, discount, and many other services available to seniors.
Volunteers will also shop and deliver groceries or prescription
medication to residents who are temporarily homebound.
Support Groups: CSC sponsors several support groups to
assist the residents of Sun City Anthem. These groups are:
