Sun City Anthem Community Association, Inc.
Board President's message read at September 28 meeting
Trumpets agreement "...on all key business points..."

At the end of January 2006, the board of directors of Sun City Anthem, led by its then President, Dave Weil, and its then Vice President David Berman, appointed Favil West, Lyndall Ruiz, and Bob Berman to form a negotiating team to bring to the board an agreement with the lessees of Trumpets.

Due to scheduling difficulties and other factors outside their control, the first meeting was not held until mid-March, 2006. In May, 2006, Dea McDonald was reappointed to the team and Lyndall dropped off. The new board which was seated May 25, 2006 made no changes to the makeup of the team or in the directions given to the team.

Since that time, the team has spent hundreds of hours in meetings in an effort to reach an agreement.

In spite of the need to overcome numerous factors outside the team’s control, and the complexities of the negotiations, I am pleased to announce, that we have reached an agreement on all key business points and have turned this to the association’s attorney to work with the S&D attorney and Del Webb attorney to consolidate the business points into acceptable contract language.

We are optimistic that we will have a full agreement, for consideration by the board, within the next few weeks. If the agreement is approved by the board, the agreement, along with a written pro/con presentation, and survey will be sent out to each household in our community.

The board will hold several informational meetings where a formal presentation will be made. After the community has had sufficient time to return the survey. The board will evaluate the results and vote. There will be no further negotiations. Simply stated, the question will be; deal? Or no deal.

The required documentation for the audit has, for the most part, been delivered to the independent auditor. Additional data requested by the auditor is expected to be furnished by S&D in the next week or so.

As many of you know, the instructions given to the team by the board that appointed them as well as the Association’s attorney are that they will not discuss trumpets unless and until we have an agreement in hand. We hope to present the results of our negotiations very soon.

Favil West
President, Sun City Anthem Community Association

Editors note: Note the use of the word "survey." A survey is not a vote. Later the words: "evaluate the results and vote."

Retiree Appreciation Day at Nellis Air Force Base
September 30, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Retiree Appreciation Day at Nellis Air Force Base, NV, is scheduled for September 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

All military retirees and their families (as well as our Veteran brothers/sisters and their families who aren’t retirees) are invited to share in the many services offered by the base during the five-hour program at The Thunderbird Hangar. Retirees will have a one-stop opportunity to renew ID cards and base decals, and speak directly with representatives of several organizations from on base and off base concerned with serving the needs of our Southern Nevada Retiree Community.

There is the World famous Thunderbird’s Museum you can tour, the most modern exchange store and commissary, which I believe are also the largest in the military, that those of you who haven’t been on base in a while can visit and take advantage of the great sales they have for you. The veterans who aren’t retirees are encouraged to come to speak with the Veteran Administration representatives about the services and benefits they are authorized.

For more information, contact the Nellis AFB Retiree Affairs/Activities Office at rao@nellis.af.mil

The Nellis RAO staff urges attendees to pre-register by calling (702) 652-8712 between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Mon. thru Fri. Registration may also be accomplished by sending an E-mail rao@nellis.af.mil  Include your name, how many people in your party, your address…e-mail address and phone number and whether you need any special accommodations if you’re handicapped or a non-retiree veteran without a Military I.D. card.
