Kitec Meeting Schedule Re-established

Hello folks, Here is the latest on the Kitec meetings. The time now is 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 03, 2007 and we just received word from the association's attorney, John Leach, that we have been successful in arranging a meeting on the Kitec plumbing problem.

This meeting will be held on Sunday, January 7th, at 6:00 p.m. Anthem Center's Hanneman Hall.

Attending will be:

  • the SCACAI Board of Directors

  • the board’s attorney

  • Pulte Homes

  • American Leak Detection

  • K & R Drywall

  • Class action attorneys.

Your board has taken a deliberate approach to completing our due diligence on this issue having met with the class action attorneys, our attorney, senior officers of Pulte, our insurers, and American Leak. More than 200 questions were submitted to the board by our residents. These questions will be read by the moderator and answered by the designated party until such time as the 2 hours limit agreed to by the parties is reached or all questions have been answered whichever comes first.

We will have 850 seats available on a first come first served basis. We would like to ask those of you with no offer and no termination date to attend another meeting so that residents with a termination date of January 11 through 13 can attend.

It is our expectation that you will be exposed to sufficient factual information so that you will be able to make an informed decision on this matter. Additionally, this meeting will be taped and will be running on Channel 99 for a period of 2 weeks.

Thank you for your patience and trust as we worked our way through the legal quagmire to bring you this meeting. See you Sunday.

“The Big Band Swing Era II (1930-1945): The Singers”

Presented by Howard Huff
Huff earlier presented live recordings of the big bands in concerts, hotels, and radio. This time he is going to show video clips of the great swing band singers of the ‘30s and ‘40s. The importance of these artists and their recordings to American music during the Depression and WWII, when popular music was synonymous with good music, will be highlighted.

Attention Henderson Seniors (50 and over)

We want to hear from you!

Earlier this year, the Henderson Senior Citizens Advisory Commission created the Henderson Fitness & Sports Committee. The mission of the Committee is to determine how more Henderson based seniors (50+) can become involved in more fitness and sports activities. We believe that it is most important to listen to the Henderson Senior community so that we are responsive to your needs, ideas and feedback.

Please take the time to complete the Henderson Senior Fitness & Sports Interest Survey which is available at the St. Rose Wellness Center kiosk. The kiosk is located just inside the exterior doors near the Fitness Center at Anthem Center. Then please return your completed forms to either Craig or Amy at the St. Rose Wellness Center.

These surveys will be collected from now through January 31st at:

  • all Henderson Recreational Centers
  • the Senior Center
  • the St. Rose Wellness Center network
  • senior housing centers
  • Sun City MacDonald Ranch
  • Sun City Anthem

After the surveys are collected, the results will be tabulated. Then serious consideration will be given to implementing new programs and expanding existing programs based on the survey results.

Thank you in advance for your participation!

Member The City of Henderson Senior Fitness and Sports Committee

SSA Benefits at Death:

Social Security should be notified as soon as possible when a person dies. In most cases, the funeral director will report the person’s death to Social Security. You will need to furnish the funeral director with the deceased’s Social Security number so he or she can make the report. Or, you can report the death to a service representative by calling SSA at 1(800) 772-1213, between 0700 & 1900 on business days. Whenever you call, have the deceased person's Social Security number handy. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, call the TTY number 1(800) 325-0778. Some of the deceased’s family members may be able to receive Social Security benefits if the deceased person worked long enough under Social Security to quality for benefits. You should get in touch with Social Security as soon as you can to make sure the family receives all of the benefits to which it may be entitled. At death:

  1. 1. A one-time payment of $255 can be paid to the surviving spouse if he or she was living with the deceased; or, if living apart, was receiving certain Social Security benefits on the deceased’s record. If there is no surviving spouse, the payment is made to a child who is eligible for benefits on the deceased’s record in the month of death.
  2. 2. Certain family members may be eligible to receive monthly benefits, including:
  • A widow or widower age 60 or older (age 50 or older if disabled);
  • A surviving spouse at any age who is caring for the deceased’s child under age 16 or disabled;
  • An unmarried child of the deceased who is: Younger than age 18 (or age 18 or 19 if he or she is a full-time student in an elementary or secondary school); or age 18 or older with a disability that began before age 22;
  • Parents, age 62 or older, who were dependent on the deceased for at least half of their support; and
  • A surviving divorced spouse, under certain circumstances.

If the deceased was receiving Social Security benefits, you must return the benefit received for the month of death or any later months. For example, if the person dies in July, you must return the benefit paid in August. If benefits were paid by direct deposit, contact the bank or other financial institution. Request that any funds received for the month of death or later be returned to Social Security. If the benefits were paid by check, do not cash any checks received for the month in which the person dies or later. Return the checks to Social Security as soon as possible. However, eligible family members may be able to receive death benefits for the month in which the beneficiary died. If you are getting benefits on your own record, you can apply for survivor’s benefits. Call or visit SSA to find out whether you can get more money as a widow or widower. Upon receipt of the report of death SSA will take the following action:

  • If you are getting benefits on your spouse's record when he or she dies, SSA will change your payments to survivor’s benefits.
  • Current benefits for children will automatically change to survivors benefits after the death is reported.

For more information and to find copies of SSA publications, refer to www.socialsecurity.gov or call the above numbers. If overseas contact the nearest U.S. Embassy. SSA will answer specific questions and provide information by automated phone service 24 hours a day. A Social Security representative can tell you what benefits may be payable and set up an appointment, if necessary, to file a claim. All calls are treated with confidentially.
