Pool Closure
February 26, 2007 — April 30, 2007

Why are we closing the pool?
Both pools and spas are in need of re-plastering because the plaster surface is thin and falling off. Both decks are in need of re-surfacing because the decks (cool deck) material is breaking away from the concrete deck below.

What work is being done?
New plaster and tile will be installed in both pools and spas. Both decks will be re-surfaced with new cool deck material and re-painted. Exterior and interior painting will be done. Handrails will be re-painted and some landscaping will be done in the outside pool deck area. The pool plaster is coming off and needs to be repaired before the Health District closes us down or before additional damage is done to the pool.

Why is it taking so long?
7 days (Mon. through Fri.) for the outdoor pool and spa, 7 days for the indoor pool and spa, 7 days for the outdoor deck, 7 days for the indoor deck, 2 weeks for the deck, and pool to cure. Add days for painting, filling the pool, chemical balance and heating the water. Allow for construction and/or weather delays.

Why both pools and spas at the same time?
The only area for the workers to come in and out is through the double doors that lead out to the parking lot inside the indoor pool. The outside pool gate is too small and the grade is too steep. There will be a lot of noise, dust and debris during the repairs. Equipment and workers coming in and out will add safety issues.

Can’t we do something to the deck that doesn’t take so long?
No, because of the separation of the cool deck from the concrete base, we have to grind it down and start over. This is considered to be normal maintenance for deck coatings on commercial properties.

Why now? Why didn’t we do it in December or January?
January is the start of the new budget. All of these items have to be approved by the committees and the Board before proceeding. The contractors themselves need 60-90 days notice before they can schedule a project of this size.
